“The last time we did a Splinter Cell, we had lots of pressure from all the fans actually saying, ‘Don’t change it, don’t do this, don’t do that,’ so some of the teams were more anxious to work on the brand. ” When you create a game, you have to make sure you will come with something that will be different enough from what you did before,” he said.
New splinter cell games series#
Talking about the creation of a new title in the Splinter Cell franchise, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that the series needed to evolve before coming back. From VGC: It’s not clear which studios are working on the project, though two people with knowledge of Ubisoft’s plans suggested the new Splinter Cell was being led by a studio outside of its traditional Montreal base. The new Splinter Cell game is in an early phase of development and may get announced sometime next year. The last mainline Splinter Cell game, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, was released nearly a decade ago in August 2013. Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad was a free-to-play action RPG that brought together characters from various Tom Clancy games such as Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, The Division, H.A.W.X., EndWar, and Splinter Cell. Earlier this month, the game was shut down. Also last year, Ubisoft announced new titles for Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell exclusive to Facebook’s Oculus VR headsets. According to development sources, the new title is being put into production following the criticism that fans had trying to revive the series as a mobile and VR title. The eight years following its release is the longest period without a new entry in the series since Splinter Cell debuted in 2002.

the last entry in the franchise was Splinter Cell: Blacklist which was released in 2013.
If Ubisoft really is reviving Splinter Cell, it will be hoping for similar reactions from its fanbase once they finally get their hands on it, probably no sooner than 2023.VGC has reported that after a decade since the last game in the series, a new mainline Splinter Cell game has been greenlit and has entered production. Metroid fans had been waiting 19 years for Dread, and most will tell you the game is everything they wanted it to be and more. This coupled with the arrival and success of Metroid Dread should serve as proof that no series is ever gone for good. The former is referring to the mobile game Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad, which was shut down earlier this month, barely a year after launch. Ubisoft has hinted Splinter Cell wasn't done before now, discussing pressure from its fans to make sure a new game remains faithful to the originals but to also create something that fits a world that has moved on almost a decade. The report suggests that the new Splinter Cell entry is being worked on as a means of winning back fans frustrated by recent efforts to revive the franchise in mobile and VR spaces. This new project is not that, and will be a fully-fledged Splinter Cell game should it ever come to fruition. Ubisoft has faced backlash from Splinter Cell fans in the past after it seemed to be reviving the series, only to reveal it is working on a VR game.

It might be a full decade since Blacklist, the last game in the main Splinter Cell series, by the time a new game arrives, but at least it appears to actually exist. The longest Splinter Cell fans have had to wait between games before now was four years, hence the belief for some that the series had been firmly left in the past by Ubisoft. Gamers were first introduced to Splinter Cell in 2002 which was followed up on by a number of sequels in the decade that followed.
